Norman Regional HealthPlex construction begins on inside of hospital

Update March 7, 2022: The Chapel is now temporarily located on the second floor.

The Norman Regional HealthPlex’s construction is continuing, with construction on the inside of the hospital beginning Jan. 29.

This phase of construction will result in the closing of the current lobby. Due to construction, the entrance into the lobby has already been closed since the summer of 2021, so the closure of the lobby will not affect patients and visitors.

Patients and visitors will continue to enter through the west entrance of the HealthPlex. The lobby just inside the entrance will be the sole lobby on the first floor of the hospital during this time.

The other change during this phase includes moving Outpatient Diagnostic Services registration. Patients will simply register at the registration desk just inside the entrance. There will be additional signage inside the HealthPlex, as well as meeting points where staff in purple vests will help patients find where they need to go.

The Daily Grind Coffee Shop and The Gift Shop will remain open.

“This will be one of multiple phases of construction and these will be among many changes as the HealthPlex expansion project continues over the next two to three years. We are dedicated to making the construction and changes that come along with it as smooth as possible for our patients, visitors and healers,” said John Manfredo, chief operating officer for Norman Regional Health System. “I want to thank our patients and their families for their patience during this time. We are undergoing this project to best meet your future health and wellness needs.”

The HealthPlex expansion is part of Norman Regional Health System’s Inspire Health plan. Inspire Health is a transformational plan designed to reimagine healthcare.

As part of Inspire Health, the Norman Regional HealthPlex is being expanded to consolidate all acute care services at the HealthPlex. The consolidation will provide a consistent patient experience, enhanced access, increased physician satisfaction and additional efficiency with hospital operations. The expansion will feature a new patient bed tower, a new roundabout entrance and a new parking garage. Phase two of the expansion will also include the creation of a Cancer Center and an Ambulatory Care Center.

“This is an exciting step in the Norman Regional HealthPlex construction. I look forward to continuing to watch the HealthPlex evolve and the Inspire Health expansion plan come to fruition,” said Trevor Wall, Norman Regional’s director of the Inspire Health plan.
